NY Asian Film Fest Lineup: Emerging Women Directors, Focus on Korean Female Filmmakers

The New York Asian Film Festival, now in its 14th year, has released the complete lineup for its 2015 edition, which will take place from June 26 - July 11 in NYC.  In addition to featuring a special program focusing on pioneering female directors and producers in Korean cinema, the festival's press notes promise that a number of films being screened will "offer superb female portraits: defiant, fierce... free." These portraits of complex Asian female characters will help fill a very serious void: only 4% of all female characters in the top 100 grossing films of 2014 were Asian.
