Screen Talk: Fall Festival Fever, Sales and Awards Contenders

Indiewire's Eric Kohn and I debate how some of these festival pickups will fare in the marketplace. New distrib STX acquired POV movie "Hardcore," Paramount has high hopes for Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson's R-rated "Anomalisa" and Sony Pictures Classics has two 2016 pickups, NYFF closer "Miles Ahead" and TIFF breakout "Maggie's Plan," as it manages its fall awards slate. Where's the race as we head into the NYFF? Is Todd Haynes' "Carol" too flat and formal? It has Harvey Weinstein behind it. Will "The Danish Girl," "Sicario" and "Black Mass" last the distance? Was France right to choose "Mustang"?...
