Cannes First Look: Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard Make Evil Look Good in 'Macbeth'

It has been a long and winding road for "Macbeth," Aussie director Justin Kurzel's revamp of the Shakespeare classic of guilt and revenge, to finally get to the Cannes competition this year. This adaptation of the deliciously dark masterpiece of evil stars Michael Fassbender as the titular power-mongering general and Marion Cotillard as the scheming, hand-wringing Lady Macbeth. Kurzel debuted in 2011 with the unsettling and powerful "Snowtown," which centered on the grisly true story of a spate of brutal cult murders in an atrophying Aussie suburb. So "Macbeth" feels like a natural progression, another grim portrait of power gone horribly awry....
