Indie distributor Alchemy has just scooped up Cannes perennial Nanni Moretti's "Mia Madre" out of the competition. This semi-autobiographical seriocomedy centers on a director (Margherita Buy) who's shooting an Italian film with an unruly and famous American actor (John Turturro). Meanwhile, she's trying to keep her own life together, despite her mother's (Giulia Lazzarini) illness and daughter's (Beatrice Mancini) budding adolescence.
